Already seeing Trans people in your practice or organization? Getting ready to deliver comprehensive, respectful care to trans clients or patients? Rainbow Health Ontario’s Trans Health Connection Training Series has been offered in more than 10 communities in Ontario. Led by experienced clinicians these sessions have received top ratings for clinical content and a supportive environment tailored to practitioners who are expanding their skills and knowledge.

Medical, nursing, psychology and social service professionals are welcome to register for one or more sessions at Toronto’s Ramada Hotel on Jarvis Street.

Cost: $50 per session, $30 for students.

Introduction to Trans Cultural Competence
July 8, 9am to 4pm (register by July 4)
Open to all health and social service professionals

  • Language, terminology, and definitions
  • Overview of the general health care needs of trans clients
  • Practical tips for recognizing and addressing barriers to care
  • Supports for next steps, making changes within your agency and practice

Providing Trans Related Clinical Care
July 29, 9am to 4pm (register by July 25)
Open to medical doctors, nurse practitioners and registered nurses

  • Providing holistic community-based primary care to trans clients
  • Assessment, monitoring, and follow-up for hormone therapy
  • Familiarizing yourself with other available community referrals
  • Building a locally-relevant, integrated health system for trans clients

Pre and Post-Operative Care, and Serving More Complex Clients
July 30, 9am to 4pm (register by July 25)
Open to medical doctors, nurse practitioners and registered nurses

  • The process for obtaining OHIP covered surgery
  • Pre and Post-Operative care and your role as a primary health provider
  • Working with more complex clients with medical contraindications, mental health, or substance use
  • Working with youth and elderly clients

Providing Counselling and Support to Clients who are Transitioning
August 12, 9am to 4pm (register by August 8)
Open to mental health counselors, social workers and support group leaders

  • New and emerging standards of care in counselling trans clients
  • How to provide trans-positive counselling to individuals, couples, and families.
  • Practical tools for assisting trans clients with documents, forms, and navigating systems barriers
  • Designing and facilitating a support group for trans clients
